What is the goal?

Through their participation, TU Berlin’s staff members and students can take the opportunity to contribute their knowledge and commitment to designing a long-term strategy for the University. The comments are intended to generate as many good ideas as possible in order to jointly improve the draft of the University Strategy. The Executive Board will arrange for the comments to the text to be evaluated in a structured manner, taking into account every single comment. It is in the nature of things that the comments and suggestions will not necessarily lead to changes in the document, since a number of different interests need to be considered. However, the comments provide helpful impetus for the further development of the document, while forming the basis for the ongoing discussion of the Strategy in TU Berlin’s Academic Senate.

What is my role in this regard?

By means of the online consultation, TU Berlin’s Executive Board would like to gather your evaluations, comments and responses – with regard to the document as a whole as well as to those specific aspects that you find good, that you think should be included but are not, or that the University itself has not yet taken a clear position on. In particular, we wish to learn about your assessment of the Strategy text:

  • What is OK? Where do you generally agree and what do you find good?
  • What is missing? Where would you set a different course, where do you see gaps?
  • What do you find unclear and vague?
  • Do you have any further comments on the text?

Even if you have little time to spare, it is worth taking a look at the University Strategy. You can of course choose to only comment on those individual sections in which you have a particular interest.

Explicit questions regarding the content of the strategy document can be added as comments. However, during the consultation phase, the University management will not clarify the content or give any feedback on comments. This will take place during the next phase, which is dedicated to following-up on the consultation and jointly discussing its results. In this phase, comments added to individual sections of the strategy document can be read by all other users. Next to the comment text itself, the status group of the person who wrote the comment (but not the actual name) will be displayed.

What happens to the comments? Following the completion of the commenting phase for University members, all comments will be reviewed, evaluated and structured, and the results will be edited. This forms the basis for the further work on the Strategy text. Once the comments have been edited, they will no longer be linked to the names in the online portal. The edited comments will be available on the online page. All those registered for the online consultation will have access to read the comments; however, they will no longer be able to add new comments. The edited comments and the strategy document will then be discussed in the Academic Senate. Those who contributed comments during the online consultation will be invited to participate in this discussion. Following the discussion in the Academic Senate and the evaluation of the consultation procedure, the names will be removed from the portal. Further information can be found in the Data Protection Declaration. The entire consultation process is supervised by the Institute for Information Management Bremen (ifib). The latter was commissioned by the Executive Board.
